The Commonwealth’s new Trade Adviser for Small States has joined the Commonwealth Small States Office in Geneva.
London, 15 June 2012 – A Commonwealth Observer Group will be in Papua New Guinea for the country’s forthcoming national elections, to be held in June and July 2012. The Group will consist of eight observers, supported by six Commonwealth Secretariat staff. Mr Nipake Edward Natapei, Vanuatu’s former Prime Minister, will lead the Group.

London, 13 June 2012 – The Commonwealth Secretariat has partnered with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, the Indian Ocean Commission and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme to organise a high-level panel discussion that will highlight the sustainable development concerns of small and small island developing states (SIDS) at the upcoming United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development – also known as the Rio+20 Earth Conference – in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma has expressed serious concern over the credible and extremely worrying reports of death threats directed at Asma Jahangir, whom he personally appointed to the former Commonwealth Eminent Persons’ Group in light of her integrity, professional expertise, global standing and the valuable perspectives she could contribute.
