The Commonwealth sends heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have died in the disastrous floods in Kerala, India.
Secretary-General Patricia Scotland said, “I am deeply saddened over the loss of life and livelihoods in the devastating floods in Kerala. We stand with the people and the government of India and commend emergency services during this tragic time”.
“With further rain and rising water expected in the coming days, our thoughts and prayers are with those affected. Extreme weather events make building resilience a key priority for climate action”, she stated.
