We have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Financial Accountant, to work within the Finance and Management Information section of the Office of the Chief Operating Officer.
The Finance and Management Information Section (FMIS) forms part of the Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), which has responsibility for a wide range of corporate services in the Commonwealth Secretariat. The office of the COO has overall responsibility for the financial management of the Secretariat’s annual budget of approximately £40 million. FMIS provides financial management and accounting services and support to the Commonwealth Secretariat. The section prepares budgets, management information as well as financial statements for the Commonwealth Secretariat funds. It also manages payroll, pensions, treasury, payments and travel for staff and contracted experts, and provides financial information to Secretariat management and the governing bodies. FMIS is also responsible for the risk management across the Secretariat as well as the maintenance of the Secretariat’s financial system.
The successful candidate will support the Financial Accountant in developing and maintaining the quality and accuracy of financial accounting information for the Secretariat. Other key responsibilities include monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, assisting the Financial Accountant in the preparation for the annual external audit of the financial statements and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. S/he will also be responsible for the day-to-day Treasury management function.
To be considered, you will need a Degree in finance, business administration or a related finance discipline or CIMA/ ACA/ ACCA qualified, or part-qualified and actively undertaking professional studies. You will also need 5 years’ experience in a similar accounting position; good experience in preparing balance sheet reconciliations as well as preparation of month end and audited Financial statements; and good experience of fixed asset accounting. Experience of working with Treasury management and foreign banks including bank reconciliations is also a requirement.
